Places like the subway, railways, parks etc. depend on pedestrian ticketing system. This ticketing system is primarily dependent on controlling pedestrian traffic. Over the years a number of effective systems have been developed, which have evolved and finally resulted in flap barrier for pedestrian control systems. While the name can be a little confusing or misleading, you have come across this effective pedestrian traffic control equipment in your day to day life. With or without ticketing systems attached to them, these flap barriers have been serving mankind for decades now.
Variants for flap barriers
There are quite a few variants of these pedestrian traffic control system that have made their way to the market. The predecessor of the current variant was tripod turnstile gate. They were clumsier and relatively harder to work with.
Depending on the construction material, the barrier gates can be categorised. There are metal gates and there are PVC or plastic gates.
There are transparent gates and there are opaque gates. Although these have no functional advantages over the others, they have a certain aesthetic value.
There are automated and manual barrier gates. The manual ones are obsolete now. The automated flip barrier gates work with the help of sensors.
There are ticketed gates and non-ticketed gates. While the ticketed gates are used at entrance points for revenue collection, and are more popular, the non-ticketed ones can also be found, mainly in public parks, to regulate pedestrian traffic.
Working principle
The flip barrier has a pretty simple working principle. There are two flips mounted on two vertical stands. The vertical stands have lists from which the flips emerge and can be contracted back to. On triggering the sensor (either by proximity or using tickets) the flips contract and allow the pedestrian to pass. After a fixed amount of time (or again triggered by sensors) the flips emerge out of the slits. This is a very simple, elegant and efficient way of regulating and monitoring pedestrian traffic.
Disadvantage
The main disadvantage is some amount of manual supervision is necessary for smooth functioning of flip barrier gates as pedestrian entrance control systems. If there is no manual supervision, someone could very easily jump over the vertical stands and flips to trespass.
Installation
There is no additional infrastructure required to install the flip gates. The vertices stands can be easily mounted. The only additional requirement is a power source.
Pricing
The flip barrier pedestrian control gates are pretty inexpensive. Depending on which variant you find fit for your application, you can choose from a range of affordable options. More often than not, one pedestrian flip gates is not sufficient to control pedestrian entrances. That is why many manufacturers and sellers have a minimum order requirement, generally starting from two pieces.
It is always better to directly get in touch with the manufacturer. Not only can they take care of any additional feature or personalisation on request (such as engraving the company name on the flip gates, maybe) but they can offer you better deals and take care of installation as well.
