Airports are the busiest places of the world where the influx of common people is thousand times more than any other place. Moreover, everyone books their tickets in advance, thus a single person can easily be targeted and eliminated. This demand for extra security at every check post of an airport.
The United States alone has 15,095 airports or 44,000 recognizable airports from around the world. United States itself has around a third of the world’s airports. Not all the airports in US have a paved runway, if you are looking for that, then there are only 5,194 airports in the US. Even then the number of airports in USA has been incrementing, thanks to the love of flying of people of US. There were many private, non-private and small airports without proper runways built during the course of World War 1. Moreover, airfields were something which was considered very important by the government of US. With empty fields available near every town and village, constructing airfield was never a problem.
With so many airports, you might hope or at least wish that this country won’t have any problem with the transportation of its passengers. But, that is not even remotely true. Because the long queues and waiting time before boarding a plane is a common headache for every US citizen planning to travel. The TSA or the transport security administration are the people to blame but they can’t help it because they are doing it all to protect their travellers. And after the infamous September 11 attacks that shook the entire world, there is a reason to take airport security seriously.
Some of the busiest airports in the United States include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the southern city of Atlanta, Georgia. Others include O’hare International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Dallas/FortWorth International Airport, John F Kennedy International Airport, Denver International Airport and others. With these many busy airports in just USA, security delays and long lines or traffic hours is not the biggest problem.
TSA shared its reports of the delay in the airports of US and there was an average of 3.3 delays per 100,000 passengers from 2006 to 2015 alone. TSA itself considers the waiting time above 20 minutes as a delay. Analysis has also revealed that Kona International Airport in Hawaii is the one that has seen the most frequent delays. Around 17 delays were reported for every 100,000 passengers in the waiting line.
The inconvenience caused to the passengers at these airports is something which has become a habit. But, even the TSA can’t do their job properly if they are deprived of the best airport security measures which it clearly needs. Homeland security has not been providing enough resources to the people at TSA. Moreover, the number of TSA officials at these airports is only decreasing when the number of passengers has just increased manifold over the years.
So, what can the government do to improve this annoying situation of waiting in long lines? For one, they can start paying the TSA officials better salaries because we are paying extra money in the form of taxes after all.
But, improving the type of security equipments that they use at the airports would be a big help. Flap barriers Gate or boom barriers can be installed at every major checkpoint to ensure that no unauthorized personnel enters the security premises. Also, they could start installing the tripod turnstile at every passenger entrance from tripod turnstile manufacturer company. This would help in a regulated passage of the travelers through the gates and help the TSA officials to actually monitor the people entering or leaving any place at the airport.
