Airport security is the most important aspect to ensure the safety of passengers. The acclivitous growth of IT has given us some remarkable products that have helped us transmogrify the security system to a completely new level. Mounted CCTV at every nook and corner of the airport, flap barriers, metal detector etc. are just a few gift of technology that has helped the authorities improve security and reduce the risk of intrusion.
The slightest lack of the airport security can lead to some disastrous result which many even sometimes put the passenger’s life at stake. The recent news about the security breach in Air Canada’s flight number AC1197 has raised some serious security concerns among the passengers. The matter surfaced when one the passenger sat on the seat and noticed a knife lying on the seat.
The jaw-dropping event details:
The shocking incident took place when the passengers boarded the Air Canada flight AC1197 which connects St. John’s to Toronto. Glenn Dire boarded the flight heartily when she discovered something bothering her comfort while sitting; to her surprise she discovered a 4 inch folded knife, which she handed over to the crew members on the plane. As per the spokesperson of Air Canada, the knife belonged to the maintenance person of the light who would have used to repair the seat and would have unknowingly left there. The only good thing about the incident was that the knife was folded.
The incidence has shocked the world as it represents a sheer lack of responsibility on the Air Canada’s crew member’s front. The flight should have been scrupulously checked leaving no scope of any hazardous material to be found later, however, this lack of responsible behavior from the staff’s end shows the lackadaisical attitude towards following the modus operandi of checking the flight to ensure any glitches later.
Lesson to be learned:
Such incidences can be avoided if regular security check is done. There are many new methodologies that can be adopted to avoid repetitions of such incidences which not only create discomfort for the passengers but also blemish the name of the airlines.
Hence, it is always advisable to install CCTV cameras, flap barriers, metal detectors to avoid any chaos.
CCTV cameras help to keep an eye on the hustle-bustle at the airport which otherwise would be a mammoth task, also, it helps to screen the overall status of security on the airport. Flap barriers, on the other hand, are helpful to streamline the flow of passengers on the airport while checking and moving out. It ensures that only one passenger passes at a time which gives sufficient time to the authorities to do the security check. The metal detectors are also an integral part of airport security checklist, this help to decipher even the smallest of metal which can sometimes create problems. The security check in not applicable only to the passengers flowing in and out, the staff and other people of the airport staff should also go through a regular security check.
If Air Canada would have emphasized on the security check of all the members who were working on flight AC1197, such a discreditable incidence could have been shunned. However, it’s never too late to learn. Henceforth, all the airlines should ensure implementation of stringent security check of the members of the running flight and also a thorough check of the flight before passengers starts to board in.
